There is no atonement for sin without sacrificial blood

In the Old Testament, especially in the Torah (the first five books of the Bible), we come across specific instructions involving blood sacrifices that were performed according to specific instructions. Without these blood sacrifices there would be no redemption from sin and its devastating consequences. It is only upon REPENTANCE of sin, and BLOOD sacrifice that God reinstated His relationship, grace, and mercy.

"[In fact] under the Law almost everything is purified by means of blood, and without the shedding of blood there is neither release from sin and its guilt nor the remission of the due and merited punishment for sins." – Heb 9:22

Through the sacrificial practices specified in the Old Testament we quickly discover the challenge of purity. No animal, person, priest, or worship team was holy and pure enough to be the perfect sacrifice. The priesthood was challenged with the tedious task of slaughtering, cleaning, and preparing sanctified offers every day. There were many different types of sacrifices, each with its own procedures and strict rules. During the preparation of the offer it often happened that a priest would cut himself by accident. The priest would then have to retire to his home until the wound healed, preventing him from contaminating the altar, equipment, and offer with his own blood.

The rule didn't change. Repentance and blood are still key to enjoying a life dedicated to God. The big change happened when Jesus died on the cross. He became the perfect sacrifice, and through his blood we no longer need to slaughter animals and rely on priestly rituals to receive forgiveness for our sins. The sacrificial lamb was slain, and through this perfect offer there is forgiveness for those who accept Jesus as the only living God.

"For God so greatly loved and clearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. For God did not send the Son into world in order to judge (reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; but he who does not believe is judged already because he has not believed in and trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of God." – Joh 3:16-18

So, the price was paid for my sins, your sins, and even for those who don't believe in Jesus - everybody. However, unlike believers and true followers of Jesus, those who do not accept this offer is NOW and FOREVER AFTER handed over to the power and torment of evil forces and the defeat that accompanies this.

"The judgement (indictment, the test by which men are judged, the ground for sentence) lies in this: the Light has come into the world, and people have loved the darkness rather than and more than the Light, for their (deeds) were evil." - Joh 3:19
